This qualification provides you with the skills and knowledge to be able to deliver a specialist service within the community services sector. They will work with a variety of people faced with debt and other financial issues. This qualification will provide you with specialist knowledge, paralegal skills and competencies focusing on credit and debt issues affecting clients and their rights and obligations. It provides a solid understanding of social and systemic issues that impact on financial counselling clients.

Establish and confirm the counselling relationship; Facilitate the interests and rights of clients; Work with clients within the social housing system; Provide services to people with co-existing mental health and alcohol and other drugs issues; Develop and implement community programs; Work with diverse people; Promote Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander cultural safety; Recognise and respond to crisis situations; Identify and apply technical information to assist clients with financial issues; Support counselling clients in decision-making processes; Facilitate the financial counselling process; Work with forced migrants; Develop, facilitate and review all aspects of case management; Develop climate risk management strategies; Provide systems advocacy services; Use communication to build relationships; Facilitate the counselling relationship and process; Work with people experiencing or at risk of homelessness; Prepare and monitor budgets and financial reports; Provide rural financial counselling services; Develop and review a business plan; Coordinate complex case requirements; Maintain work health and safety; Increase the safety of individuals at risk of suicide; Develop and use financial counselling tools and techniques; Apply specialist interpersonal and counselling interview skills; Assess co-existing needs; Interpret and use legal information; Reflect on and improve own professional practice; Develop workplace communication strategies; Undertake bicultural work with forced migrants in Australia; Plan and monitor production processes

This qualification is NOT related to the work performed by financial planners or financial advisors whose role is to provide clients with strategies to address their investment options. This qualification does NOT refer to therapeutic counselling.
