Graduate Diploma of Child and Family Health Nursing

This program prepares midwives for advanced practice in community child and family health. It offers experience across a broad range of practice within the framework of early childhood services. Teaching/learning is done via face-to-face lectures, online, and field experiences.

Entry Requirements:

A Bachelor of Nursing degree or equivalent, and a Graduate Diploma in Midwifery or Bachelor of Midwifery degree or equivalent Current registration with AHPRA as both a nurse and a midwife. Applicants must also have a minimum of one year of EFT graduate experience in both nursing and midwifery. Applicants should be able to demonstrate recent clinical experience, defined as having worked in nursing or midwifery for a minimum of one year EFT in the past five years. Applicants are required to arrange a clinical place with a local MCH service and submit confirmation of this as part of the application process. Applicants are encouraged to discuss this early in the application process with the program coordinator, who will also provide a specific form for this requirement. Applicants are required to provide a CV.

Structure:

96 credit points. A minimum of 300 hours in an approved maternal and child health setting is required for this program. Units include: Communication and Counselling for Health Care Professionals; Contemporary Issues in Nursing and Health Care; Research in Nursing and Midwifery; Clinical Issues for Children in the Community; Family Studies; Primary Health and Assessment of the Young Child; plus two elective courses.
