The Graduate Diploma represents an intensive learning program that offers a blend of practical and reflective elements. It is designed to give graduates a strong appreciation of what it takes to write and think about the news. The program is taught by lecturers with extensive professional and academic experience. Their backgrounds cover radio, television and online journalism, newspaper and magazine journalism, specialist reporting, and news organisation management. Students present and produce live radio news for 3RRR, write for City Journal publications and produce live-to-air TV news bulletin reports for Newsline on Channel 31. The Graduate Diploma in Journalism was initiated by the RMIT Journalism Program Advisory Committee. The program maintains strong industry links to ensure the program remains current and relevant to today's multi-platform news media industries.

Successfully completed an Australian Bachelor degree (or equivalent overseas qualification), or Significant work experience or professional practice.

Founded in 1887, RMIT became a university in 1992. It offers both higher education and vocational education courses with over 82,000 students including 31,160 international students, of whom 18,860 are taught outside Australia (almost 7,000 at RMIT Vietnam).

The Brunswick campus is six kilometres from the city and offers state-of-the-art specialist graphic technology, fashion and textile facilities - with access to the on-campus International Fibre Centre. The Bundoora campus is set in extensive parklands and offers courses in life sciences, education and manufacturing/mechanical engineering.
