This program will provide students with a deep understanding of development issues across the world, focusing on vulnerable communities. Students will experience a range of political, social and economic problems such as gender and health inequalities, environmental and human rights issues in both developing and developed countries. Students will develop specialised skills to help communities, cities and countries adapt to the complex and changing environment in an era of globalisation: professional ethics; political and social theory; training; microfinance; advocacy; participatory approaches. Students will build professional capabilities that are essential for designing, implementing, monitoring and evaluating development projects. The program is offered on campus and online. All core courses and some electives are offered online.

Structure
192 credit points. This incorporates the Graduate Diploma (96 credit points). This program is offered online and face-to face. The program is primarily taught through evening classes during the week, with some courses delivered through intensive full-day workshops. All core courses and some electives are offered online. Through a combination of core and elective courses students will examine the uneven distribution of human well-being, social opportunity and economic wealth across the globe.

Standard entry requirements
An Australian undergraduate degree or its equivalent. Applicants with significant work experience may also be considered. Applicants applying for entry on the basis of work experience must include with their application a CV and direct applicant statement detailing their experience.
Study pathways
If applicants have successfully completed one of the following qualifications majoring in international studies, politics, sociology, social work, international community development, history or anthropology, will be eligible for exemption. Applicants with a bachelor honours degree, graduate certificate, graduate diploma or masters degree qualification majoring in a different discipline may also be eligible for exemption of up to 48 credit points (equivalent to one semester full time study). Students use this program as the first step in advancing to PhD research.
