This program provides advanced studies in translating and interpreting theory, professional aspects, project management, language policy and language services, discourse studies, pedagogy, and translation and interpreting practice.

Entry Requirements:

Applicants must have successfully completed an Australian Bachelor degree (or equivalent overseas qualification) in any discipline. If applicants have not completed an undergraduate degree, may still be considered with significant relevant work experience in interpreting or translating or in the use of bilingual language skills. Please note: Applicants must indicate in their application the language combination that has been applied for. Applicants will be selected competitively for all languages based on GPA, relevant experience and the results of any selection tasks required to complete.


192 credit points. This incorporates a Graduate Diploma exit point (96 credit points). The program structure includes a range of translating, interpreting, discourse and theory courses. Translating and interpreting electives may not be available in all languages and are offered subject to minimum numbers. All courses are worth 12 credit points unless otherwise noted.

Study Pathways:

If students have successfully completed undergraduate studies in a cognate discipline of translating and interpreting, languages or linguistics, students may be eligible for up to 48 credit points exemption from the University for up to 4 courses in the program's first year. Students also use this program as the first step in advancing to PhD research.


The program is approved by the National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters (NAATI). Graduates who meet the requirements may be eligible for translator and/or interpreter accreditation with NAATI.
