Advanced Diploma of Alexander Technique Teaching

School for FM Alexander Studies

This course aims to give trainees a high level of understanding of their own use as the basis of being able to teach others. In the fourth year students also focus on the practical aspects of establishing a viable Alexander teaching practice. Students will also complete the Certificate IV in Assessment and Workplace Training and the Course in Basic First Aid as part of their training.

Experience of at least 30 Alexander lessons

Principles of the Alexander technique; Use of the self; Anatomy; Clinical skills; Specialist use of the self; Provide specific information to clients/patients (pupils in the Alexander technique context); Develop professional expertise; Manage a practice; Communicate effectively with clients/patients (pupils); Administer a practice; Make referrals to other health care professionals when appropriate; Provide reception services for a practice; Use specific/medical terminology to communicate with clients/patients (pupils), fellow heath workers and health professionals.

Established in 2013, The School for F.M. Alexander Studies is a Registered Training Organisation. The School runs a course accredited by the Australian Society of Teachers of the Alexander Technique (AUSTAT). This course is internationally recognised by other affiliated societies. The School gained government accreditation for the Advanced Diploma of Alexander Technique Teaching in 2003, and also offers introductory and intensive courses in Alexander Technique and programs looking at the application of the Technique to yoga, swimming, tai chi, horse riding, pain management, voice, singing and music.
