The University's campuses are inspiring places at which to study - from the southern Gold Coast, to Lismore and Coffs Harbour, where the University's National Marine Science Centre is also located. The University operates The Hotel School Sydney and The Hotel School Melbourne in partnership with Mulpha Australia and branch campuses in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth in collaboration with EduCo.

Southern Cross has built on strengths in the environmental sciences, expanding its undergraduate profile to include Honours degrees in civil, mechanical and coastal systems engineering.

Students access state-of-the-art specialised laboratories and teaching resources for health science degrees and the Southern Cross University Health Clinic provides services to the public as well as placements for students.

Specialised teaching facilities for music, visual arts and media include recording, performance and music production studios; radio and television studios; and purpose-built studios for drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, photography, ceramics and digital art and design.

Entry requirements for Southern Cross University (SCU)

Standard entry procedures apply but some courses have additional or alternative selection criteria (the Bachelor of Art and Design requires an interview and portfolio). A range of Special Entry Schemes also apply. These include a Regional Entry Scheme, Tertiary Preparation Course and Alternative Entry as follows: applicants who are 18 years or over, in the year of intended enrolment, may be considered for admission on the basis of a range of other qualifications. These qualifications include: TAFE studies at Certificate III level or higher; results of the Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT); work experience (including voluntary work experience for some courses); and professional qualifications.

Standard admission requirements apply for overseas students. SCU International coordinates its international programs and an international adviser and English lecturers provide ongoing and English support to international students. Countries of origin include China, Hong Kong, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, USA, Japan, UK and India, among others.

Transfering your previous study credits

Advanced standing (credit transfer) may be granted to an enrolled student for studies completed at another institution or experience at a professional level in an area relevant to the current course. Advanced standing is determined on a case by case level by each School Board. Not all schools grant advanced standing on professional experience. For more information, visit:

External study oppurtunities

The University is a major provider of distance education. Students can study from home or their workplace or almost anywhere in the world if they can access the internet and have a computer. Web-based technologies and virtual classrooms are employed, assisting students to actively engage with each other and their lecturers, no matter where they are located. Study may also involve field trips, work experience, lectures, tutorials, workshops or face-to-face teaching.

Description Australian Postgraduate Award (APA) scholarships are awarded to students of exceptional research potential undertaking a Higher Degree by Research (HDR). APAs are provided to assist with general living costs. Part-time APAs may only be awarded under exceptional circumstances which relate to the applicant having significant caring commitments or a medical condition.
Eligibility The awards are open to Australian citizens and permanent residents or New Zealand citizens, who hold a bachelor degree with honours class I or IIA or an equivalent qualification. Applicants cannot: previously have held an Australian Government Research Scholarship for more than 6 months; be in receipt of an equivalent award (greater than 75 per cent of the base stipend); or, have completed a degree at the same level or higher than that proposed.
