Certificate IV in Engineering

This qualification covers the skills and knowledge required for employment as a Higher Engineering Tradesperson or a Special Class Engineering Tradesperson (Mechanical) - Level II, Special Class Engineering Tradesperson (Fabrication) - Level II, Special Class Engineering Tradesperson (Electrical/Electronic) - Level II within the metal, engineering, manufacturing and associated industries or at equivalent levels in other industries where Engineering Tradespersons work. The qualification has been specifically developed to be delivered to people who are existing engineering tradespersons or delivered to apprentices in an Engineering Trade who choose to study at a higher level during their apprenticeship. The qualification packaging has been developed on an assumption that competency will be developed through an integrated combination of on and off-the-job learning strategies such as those delivered through a formal apprenticeship. The qualification may also be achieved through formal skills recognition assessment processes.

Entry Requirements:

Year 12 or equivalent, plus employment as a trainee in the engineering industry

Structure:

The minimum requirements for achievement of the Certificate IV in Engineering are: completion of all core units; and completion of units from the Group A Specialisation electives to the value of at least 12 points, and completion of Group B electives to bring the total value to at least 109 points.

Established in 1979, Sunraysia Institute of TAFE also known as SuniTAFE is a provider of vocational education and training in north-west Victoria. The Institute enrols more than 4500 students annually, in over 200 courses, over 25 different industries. A vast choice of programs is offered, including certificates, diplomas, advanced diplomas, apprenticeships, traineeships, short courses and specialised industry training. Courses are delivered through three regional campuses - Mildura, Swan Hill and Robinvale. Students leave SuniTAFE may get credits towards associate degrees offered by selected Universities. SuniTAFE has over 200 staff including experienced and qualified tutors and industry experts. SuniTAFE staff assess work, answer questions and provide guidance and encouragement. Student Support Services personnel are also on hand to offer support.
