The Bachelor of Business (Professional) includes a mandatory 12-month paid work placement. Gain core skills and knowledge in business, management and operations to prepare for roles in modern organisations. Select a major area of specialisation and combine with other studies become an entrepreneurial thinker in your future career. The course links theoretical and practical knowledge needed to operate effectively in diverse settings such as not-for-profits, government, small business and corporations. Participate in professionally focused, multidisciplinary projects during your final year of study.

Entry Requirements:

Year 12 or equivalent; VCE prerequisites: Units 3 and 4: a minimum study score of 25 in English (or equivalent) or 30 in English (EAL). Additional performance criteria and prerequisite requirements may also apply. English language requirements - satisfactory completion of one of the following: Swinburne's English for Academic Purposes (EAP 5 Advanced level) with overall 70%, all skills 65%; minimum IELTS overall band of 6.5 (Academic Module) with no individual band below 6.0; TOEFL iBT (internet-based) minimum score of 79 with a reading band no less than 18 and writing band no less than 20; Pearson (PTE) minimum score of 58 (no communicative skills less than 50); any other equivalent assessment of English language proficiency. Note: A prerequisite for many courses, the Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic) can now be done on campus in Hawthorn.

Structure:

375-400 credit points comprising: 8 Core units (100 credit points); 8-16 units for Major (100-200 credit points); 4 Professional Work Placement units (100 credit points); 0-6 units for Other studies (0-75 credit points). Please note that due to government regulations international students holding a student visa are not able to undertake the Accounting and Finance major or the Accounting and Financial Planning Professional Program major.

Study Pathways:

Pathways allow students to progress from one qualification to another where the first course is recognised as an entry requirement and/or provides advanced standing to the second. Credit is granted in recognition of previous study and/or experience and allows students to gain advanced standing towards their course. Applicants are assessed on a case-by-case basis.

This degree includes a mandatory 12-month professional placement. This placement provides invaluable full-time, paid work experience. Students will earn credit towards their degree and confidence in knowing that they have what it takes to land a job in their field by graduation. Students can participate in other Work Integrated Learning opportunities - choose from professional internships, industry-linked projects, industry study tours and accreditation placements. Note: Some Work Integrated Learning opportunities are not available to international students due to visa restrictions.

Recognition:

Graduates with an Accounting or Accounting and Finance Major may be eligible to apply for membership of CPA Australia (CPAA), Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CAANZ), the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) or the Institute of Public Accountants (IPA).
