This course develops an understanding of education, equipping students to become teachers who utilise the latest technology and teaching techniques to engage children across a range of subject disciplines. Through collaborative group activities and school based practical placements students develop the skills to design engaging and effective learning experiences. Students are taught to identify and address diversity; tailoring the learning experience to the needs of their learners.

Structure

  • Students are required to complete 400 credit points comprising of 32 units of study (12.5 credit points each). The 400 credit points must comprise of: 28 units of core education and early childhood studies (350 credit points)
  • 4 units of other studies comprising of a minor or elective units (50 credit points)

Standard entry requirements

  • One of: Successful completion of the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) or its equivalent, such as an interstate or international Year 12 qualification
  • Completion of an approved Diploma or Advanced Diploma
  • Completion or partial completion of an approved Associate Degree or Bachelor Degree

Recognition

This course meets the academic requirements outlined by the Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT). VIT recognition enables graduates to register as a teacher Australia-wide. On completion of an Education degree, all Teachers must register with the appropriate teacher body. Any criminal offence or proceedings need to be declared as part of the registration process.
