Structure
To qualify for the Professional Certificate of Aviation (Operational Safety Systems), students must complete two units (25 credit points). Units normally carry 12.5 credit points. In each academic year, eight units normally constitute a full-time load of 100 credit points and four units normally constitute a part-time load of 50 credit points. The typical part-time student's average weekly workload during semester is expected to be 25 hours.
Standard entry requirements
Applicants would normally be university graduates with a Bachelor degree or have undertaken a specific vocational program in safety such as the CASA Diploma of Aviation Safety Regulation. Alternatively, consideration will also be given to applicants who have completed at least two years experience* in an operational environment. Applications from individuals who do not have such experience will be assessed on their merits. Although this course is primarily designed for people who work within the aviation industry, the general principles and tools may be applicable to other industries. Accordingly applicants from other industries (such as rail, medicine, petrochemical) who satisfy the general admission requirements may also be eligible. * Relevant industry experience: If this includes work experience, documents substantiating work experience need to be provided on company letterhead and clearly detail roles as well as duties and duration of posts held.
