Master of Applied Statistics

The Master of Applied Statistics is designed to give you an advanced practical and theoretical knowledge of statistical methods that you can apply in your workplace or to your area of interest. The program comprises coursework, work placements, and a minor thesis. Become proficient with statistical software packages, including R, SAS and IBM SPSS, and develop data analysis skills in advanced statistical modelling and measurement. Build your research and evaluation expertise through a consulting unit and a research unit. Supervised professional placements are a critical component of the course and will help you cement your learning in a professional context. Graduate with the skills and experience to establish yourself as a professional statistician or statistical consultant. Students who complete a master program with appropriate experience are eligible to apply for the award of Accredited Statistician through the Australian Statistical Society.

Entry Requirements:

Undergraduate degree and an understanding of descriptive statistics; or successful completion of the Graduate Certificate and/or Graduate Diploma of Applied Statistics with a 65% average. English language requirements - satisfactory completion of one of the following: Swinburne's English for Academic Purposes (EAP 5 Advanced level) with overall 70%, all skills 65%; minimum IELTS overall band of 6.5 (Academic Module) with no individual band below 6.0; TOEFL iBT (internet-based) minimum score of 79 with a reading band no less than 18 and writing band no less than 20; Pearson (PTE) minimum score of 58 (no communicative skills less than 50); any other equivalent assessment of English language proficiency. Note: A prerequisite for many courses, the Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic) can now be done on campus in Hawthorn.
