Advanced Diploma of Visual Arts

TAFE NSW

This qualification is part of the Creative Arts and Culture Training Package. It reflects the role of individuals who have para-professional level technical, creative and conceptual skills to originate, realise and exhibit a substantial body of resolved work that expresses their own creative vision. Visual artists work within and across many mediums, and their practice may incorporate ceramics, digital art, glasswork, drawing and illustration, jewellery making, painting, photomedia, printmaking, public art, sculpture, textiles or wood design. Practice at this level is underpinned by application of art theory and history, the ability to engage in critical discourse and to debate one's own work and the work of others.

Entry Requirements:

Diploma of Visual Arts; or relevant experience and provide evidence of ability to: Refine drawing and other visual representation tools; Realise a body of creative work; Present a body of own creative work; Analyse cultural history and theory.

Structure:

12 units: 7 core; 5 elective

Subjects you can Study:

Core: Research and apply concepts and theories of creativity; Establish and maintain safe professional practice; Extend professional expertise with drawing and other visual representation tools; Originate a body of independent creative work; Engage in the business of creative practice; Publicly present a body of own creative work; Extend cultural research expertise. Electives: Create observational drawings; Develop and refine metal-working techniques; Refine illustration techniques; Apply traditional techniques to jewellery and 3D object production; Manage and exploit copyright arrangements; Monitor and manage small business operations; plus more.
