TAFE NSW

This course is suited to Aboriginal peoples who are looking for employment in the education sector for Aboriginal peoples; people who aim to work with Aboriginal communities to strengthen relationships and strive for community capacity building. It targets Aboriginal peoples of Aboriginal descent, identify as Aboriginal and are accepted as such by the local Aboriginal community. Students will acquire a broad range of language structures and vocabulary items to enable them to speak, read and write the Aboriginal language in a variety of clearly defined languages in routine social, community and work settings. In addition, students will gain a knowledge and appreciation of Aboriginal culture.

Entry Requirements:

Certificate II or equivalent in Aboriginal Language/s

Subjects you can Study:

Core: Listen and converse in an Aboriginal language; Apply conversational strategies in an Aboriginal language; Apply basic linguistic and grammatical concepts to an Aboriginal Language. Electives: Demonstrate awareness of cultural protocols for communicating with an Aboriginal community; Identify workplace rights and responsibilities; Develop knowledge about the interdependence of Aboriginal language with land, cultures and identity; Read and respond in an Aboriginal language; Develop an Aboriginal language resource; Develop and implement a project; Produce simple word processed documents; Mentor Aboriginal people; Consult with an Aboriginal community to develop a product or service; Support classroom teacher in a learning environment; Assess own skills for tutoring; Support Aboriginal learners with literacy needs; Maintain cultural places; Observe and report plants and/or animals; Read and Write in Aboriginal Language/s; Read and write in an Aboriginal language.
