This qualification provides signing skills to communicate in Auslan with some confidence on familiar, routine and some non-routine matters. Communication may take place in any situation including personal, public, social, employment and educational domains.This qualification aligns to an adaptation, for sign languages, of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), BI: Independent User.This is an Auslan signer who can:understand the main points when clear, standard language (which for sign language users may be a locally used variation) is used and the topics are familiar matters regularly encountered in work, school, leisure, etc.deal with most situations likely to arise where the sign language is usedproduce simple connected text on topics, which are familiar, or of personal interestdescribe experiences and events, dreams, hopes and ambitions and briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans.The volume of learning for a Certificate III is typically 1 to 2 years.No occupational licensing, certification or specific legislative requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication.
