Certificate III in Racing - Advanced Stablehand

This qualification is part of the Racing Training Package. It is for people who want to work as an advanced stablehand in harness racing stables caring for horses and their environment. As an advanced stablehand (sometimes referred to as stable foreman) you will be in charge of daily operations in a harness racing stable. In a harness racing stable you will care for standard bred horses. You work to the delegated instructions of a trainer who has overall responsibility for the enterprise. There is a degree of autonomy within the delegation; for example you are permitted under the rules of racing to act for the trainer on race days and when operating as a foreman in the stable environment directs and coordinates one or more stablehands.

Entry Requirements:

No minimum education; however experience with horses is required.

Structure:

22 units: 19 core; 3 elective

Core: Apply first aid; Achieve requirements for industry induction; Attend horses at trackwork; Identify factors that affect racehorse performance; Respond to emergency situations; Provide first aid and emergency care for horses; Deal with conflict; plus more. Electives: Manage personal health and fitness; Prepare to drive jog work; Prepare for race driving; Participate in implementing racehorse exercise programs; plus more.
