Certificate IV in Community Services

TAFE NSW

This qualification is part of the Community Services Training Package. It covers community service workers who design and deliver person-centred services to individuals and/or groups. Workers may provide support, advocacy or interventions to individual clients, groups or communities across a range of services. At this level, workers may be autonomous with limited responsibility within established parameters and may be required to supervise and lead other workers in projects or teams. Work may take place in a range of community service, case work or case management contexts.

Entry Requirements:

Completion of Stage 2 SACE (NT) or equivalent; or completion of Junior Secondary School Certificate; or completion of an approved Certificate level III course and two years relevant work experience.

Structure:

15 units: 7 core; 8 elective

Core: Facilitate the interests and rights of clients; Assess co-existing needs; Use communication to build relationships; Work with diverse people; Work legally and ethically; plus more. Electives: Provide advocacy and representation services; Represent clients in court; Facilitate the empowerment of older people; Work in an alcohol and other drugs context; Provide needle and syringe services; plus more.

Study Pathways:

Students who successfully complete VET qualifications at the Certificate IV level or above and subsequently enrol in a Bachelor degree in the same field or discipline will receive advanced standing.
