This qualification reflects the role of barbers who use a range of well-developed sales, consultation and technical skills and knowledge to provide a broad range of barbering services to clients. They use discretion and judgement to provide client services and take responsibility for the outcomes of their own work.This qualification provides a pathway to work as a barber in any industry environment, usually a barber shop or salon.No occupational licensing, certification or specific legislative requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication.

This course is government-subsidised, meaning you pay a portion of the full course fee to TAFE NSW and the government will pay the balance. However, you must meet certain eligibility criteria for this to apply. Students are to wear black pants, enclosed shoes and Barbering uniform which is available for pruchase for $30 from the hairdressing department.Students are to supply their own cutting equipment/kit.

This includes:- Various scissors for the purpose of cutting hair, including thinners and long blade overcomb scissors - Feather haircutting razor and disposable replacement razors- Trimmer, clipper and attachments, balding clippers if completing barber units- Blow dryer and thermal equipment - Sectioning clips, various combs and brush sizes- Professional personal equipment (PPE) - Enclosed footwear- Professional Industry standard dress code applies Further costs in addition to your student fees may be applicable for this qualification.
