This qualification is part of the Electrotechnology Training Package. It is aimed at those working as electrical engineering technicians. Students will learn how to develop, select, commission, maintain and diagnose faults / malfunctions on advanced electrical equipment and systems. This course meets the national Electrical Regulatory Authorities Council (ERAC) requirements for an unrestricted 'Electrician's License'.

Assess the fitness-for-purpose of hazardous areas explosion-protected equipment - coal mining; Install, configure and commission LV grid connected photovoltaic power systems; Install and replace low voltage current transformer metering; Set up and place LV electrical apparatus and associated circuits into service; Solve basic problems in photovoltaic energy apparatus and systems; Diagnose and rectify faults in a.c. motor drive systems; Fault find and repair analogue circuits and components in electronic control systems; Rewind single phase machines; Compile and produce an energy sector detailed report; Rewind LV direct current machines; Develop and connect electrical control circuits; Conduct testing of hazardous areas installations - coal mining; Participate in development and follow a personal competency development plan; Solve problems in low voltage a.c. circuits; Solve problems in temperature measurement components and systems; Attend to breakdowns in hazardous areas - pressurisation; Install explosion-protected equipment and wiring systems - coal mining; Provide engineering solutions to problems in complex polyphase power circuits; Solve problems in density/level measurement components and systems; Solve problems in pressure measurement components and systems; Establish the basic operating conditions of vapour compression systems;
