Diploma of Furniture Design and Technology

TAFE NSW

This qualification is part of the Furnishing Training Package. It describes the skills and knowledge required where the design of furniture and the application of the design into a finished furniture product is the central focus. This qualification reflects two primary occupational outcomes in the areas of furniture design and technology - with a potential to focus on skills required to design and produce furniture for custom or volume production.

Structure:

23 units: 5 core; 18 elective

Subjects you can Study:

Core: Implement and monitor environmentally sustainable work practices; Research and select furniture materials and technology; Research furniture styles and movements; Develop self as a furniture designer; Evaluate furniture design proposals and concepts. Electives: Originate and develop concepts; Manage design realisation; Undertake project work; Create digital 3D models; Apply ergonomics, anthropometrics and proxemic considerations to a product; Assess and resolve technical integrity of a design; Construct custom furniture using advanced techniques; Design a batch or limited production item of furniture; Design a one-off item of furniture; Design for mass production; plus more.
