Diploma of Interpreting

TAFE NSW

This qualification is part of the Public Sector Training Package. It covers competencies required to interpret from a source language to a target language, in general dialogue and monologue settings where the interpreter is able to physically control the discourse to assist retention and recall. The interpreting takes place where miscommunication or the consequences of errors in communicative intent can be readily managed through consultation and preparation, and where there are opportunities for error correction. Available LOTE specialisations include: Arabic; Indonesian; Cantonese; Dutch; French; German; Greek; Hindi; Hungarian; Italian; Japanese; Korean; Malay; Mandarin; Russian; Polish; Portuguese; Serbian; Spanish; Swedish; Swiss German; Taiwanese; Thai; Turkish; Croatian; Bosnian; Australian Indigenous languages and Auslan.

Entry Requirements:

No minimum education. Applicants should be proficient in English and another language. This may be demonstrated through recognised or accredited language qualifications or through an assessment of current competency.

Structure:

12 units: 7 core; 4 elective

Specialist: LOTE-Arabic; LOTE-Indonesian; LOTE-Cantonese; LOTE-Dutch; LOTE-French; LOTE-German; LOTE-Greek; LOTE-Hindi; LOTE-Hungarian; LOTE-Italian; LOTE-Japanese; LOTE-Korean; LOTE-Malay; LOTE-Mandarin; LOTE-Russian; LOTE-Polish; LOTE-Portuguese; LOTE-Serbian; LOTE-Spanish; LOTE-Swedish; LOTE-Swiss German; LOTE-Taiwanese; LOTE-Thai; LOTE-Turkish; LOTE-Croatian; LOTE-Bosnian; LOTE-Australian Indigenous languages; LOTE-Auslan.
