Diploma of Library and Information Services


This qualification is part of the Business Services Training Package. It reflects the role of individuals with sound theoretical knowledge base who use a range of specialised, technical or managerial competencies to plan, carry out and evaluate their own work or the work of a team. They may provide leadership and guidance to others and have some responsibility for the output of others.

Entry Requirements:

Certificate IV in Library, Information and Cultural Services or equivalent; or relevant vocational experience with no formal qualification


19 units: 7 core; 12 elective

Subjects you can Study:

Core: Manage quality customer service; Lead team effectiveness; Extend own information literacy; Monitor compliance with copyright and licence requirements; Consolidate and maintain industry knowledge; Develop and promote activities, events and public programs; Identify and resolve client IT problems. Electives: Review and maintain a website; Complete a range of cataloguing activities; Obtain information from external and networked sources; Search library and information databases; Maintain digital repositories; Promote literature and reading; Analyse and describe information resources; Provide subject access and classify material; Use and monitor advanced functions of integrated library management systems; Research and analyse information to meet customer needs; plus more.

To meet accreditation requirements as a Library Technician, at least 7 elective units must be from Group A.
