This qualification is part of the Construction, Plumbing and Services Training Package. It is appropriate for an apprentice tradesperson working in the wall and ceiling lining sector. Competencies covered may include construct bulkheads, assemble partitions, install and finish plasterboard and fibre cement sheeting to flat walls and ceilings, install wet area lining systems, and install dry wall passive fire-rated systems.

Entry Requirements:

Year 10 or equivalent

Structure:

26 units: 19 core; 7 elective

Core: Work effectively and sustainably in the construction industry; Plan and organise work; Conduct workplace communication; Carry out measurements and calculations; Work safely at heights; Read and interpret plans and specifications; Apply OHS requirements, policies and procedures in the construction industry; Fix standard plasterboard wall sheets; Fix standard plasterboard ceiling sheets; Fix battens; Fix wet area sheets; Fix ceiling sheets to external protected areas; Fix fibre cement board; Apply levels of finish standards to planning and inspection of own work; Mix plastering compounds; Finish plasterboard joins manually; Manually sand plaster work; Finish category 1 and 2 wet areas; Cut and fix paper-faced cornices. Plus electives.

Further information:

Completion of the general induction training program specified by the National Code of Practice for Induction Training for Construction Work (SAC 2006) is required before entering a construction work site. Achievement of unit CPCCOHS1001A covers this requirement.
