This qualification is part of the Metal and Engineering Training Package. It is for new and existing employees in the engineering industry. This program links on-the-job training with training provided off-the-job, thereby ensuring all skills acquired are practical and relevant to industry. Broad based modules are aimed at providing students with a well-rounded appreciation of all aspects of the industry include an introduction to computer use in relation to engineering work, machining, using hand and power tools and the fundamentals of electrical concepts and principles. Students may choose the subjects that best complement their existing knowledge and experience and optional modules can also be selected depending on their employer's needs. These range from industrial waste management to scrap processing, covering all the elements of engineering.

Subjects you can Study:

Core: Perform engineering measurements; Perform computations; Apply principles of occupational health and safety in the work environment; Plan to undertake routine task; Plan complete activity; Apply quality procedures; Apply quality systems; Organise and communicate information; Work with others in manufacturing, engineering or related environment; Interact with computing technology; Assist in the provision of on the job training. Plus 3 metallurgy specialist elective units: Supervise individual ferrous melting and casting operation; Supervise individual non-ferrous melting and casting operation; Examine appropriateness of methoding for mould design; Undertake prescribed tests on foundry related materials; plus Maths unit: Apply mathematical techniques in a manufacturing engineering or related environment.

Graduates may gain work within the mechanical engineering, fabrication, welding or locksmithing industries.
