The course is designed to provide new participants with the theoretical and practical skills and knowledge required to work in the civil construction industry. People undertaking this course will learn a range of basic skills including general measurements and calculations, use of hand and power tools, operation of small plant and equipment, spreading and compacting materials and carrying out concrete work.

  • Fall trees manually (intermediate)

  • Trim and cut felled trees
  • Work safely and follow WHS policies and procedures
  • Support plant operations
  • Handle resources and infrastructure materials and safely dispose of nontoxic materials
  • Lay pipes
  • Install trench support
  • Repair potholes
  • Drain and dewater civil construction site
  • Licence to perform rigging basic level
  • Licence to operate a boom-type elevating work platform (boom length 11 metres or more)
  • Operate small plant and equipment
  • Communicate in the workplace
  • Direct cast in-situ piling operations
  • Read and interpret plans and job specifications
  • Plan and organise work
  • Carry out concrete work
  • Carry out basic levelling
  • Control traffic with stop-slow bat
  • Carry out measurements and calculations
