Think Education

This qualification is part of the Health Training Package. It covers the application of nursing skills and knowledge required provide nursing care for people across the health sector. A graduate from a Diploma of Nursing program approved by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) is able to apply for registration with the NMBA as an enrolled nurse.

Entry Requirements:

CIT literacy and numeracy assessment task (ACSF level 4) or Year 12.

Structure:

25 units: 20 core; 5 elective

Subjects you can Study:

Core: Confirm physical health status; Analyse and respond to client health information; Practise nursing within the Australian health care system; Apply communication skills in nursing practice; Perform clinical assessment and contribute to planning nursing care; plus more. Elective: Provide first aid; Provide advanced first aid; Apply a palliative approach in nursing practice; Contribute to maternal and infant health care; plus more.

Further information:

Before any clinical placements can commence, applicants will have to provide: a Doctor's certificate (to say you are fit to work as a nurse); evidence of commencement of Hepatitis B immunisation; a Senior First Aid Certificate valid for the duration of the program and a completed police check.

The elective units selected for this qualification have been chosen in consultation with industry representatives and, subsequently, accredited by the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council (ANMAC).

The Fitzroy Campus and Wellbeing Centre is a multi-disciplinary teaching clinic and education institution also offer courses provided by THINK Education. The clinic is open to the general public, students and staff, and appointments are supervised by qualified and experienced practitioners to ensure you receive quality healthcare and service. Treatments include natural therapy consultations, myotherapy treatments and acupuncture. Students train with real clients to practice their health and wellbeing skills whilst learning to understand customer expectations and how best to communicate professionally. Facilities include dispensary, manufacturing room and consultation rooms.

Entry requirements

In order to meet our accreditation with the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council, the applicants must meet the following minimum standards to enter into the HLT54115 Diploma of Nursing.

Applicants are required to:

  • Complete Year 12 or equivalent, OR;
  • Have an Australian Certificate III in Individual Support or disability work, OR;
  • Be of mature age which can be demonstrated by a candidate who is at least of 21 years, AND;
  • Provide evidence of meeting at least one of the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) English language standards listed below prior to enrolment: nursingmidwiferyboard.gov.au/Registration-Standards/English-language-skills.aspx
