Diploma of Alcohol and Other Drugs

TrainSmart Australia

This qualification is part of the Community Services Training Package. It applies to workers who work under broad supervision and guidance and provide services to clients with alcohol and other drugs issues. They can provide counselling, referral and promotion services. These workers require high level specialist knowledge, skills and competencies especially in regard to laws affecting clients, the range of services available to them and health issues related to alcohol and drugs use and misuse.

22 units: 16 core; 6 elective

Subjects you can Study:

Core: Provide systems advocacy services; Provide interventions for people with alcohol and other drugs issues; Work in an alcohol and other drugs context; Assess needs of clients with alcohol and other drugs issues; Work with diverse people; Establish and manage client relationships; Work effectively in trauma informed care; Develop strategies for alcohol and other drugs relapse prevention and management; plus more and electives.

  • Work placement opportunities. Some courses offer mandatory work placements that can help secure future employment opportunities. We have a work placement officer who can advise students.
  • Flexible payment options. We have a range of payment plans to suit individual requirements. Students can pay upfront or by instalments and we can also offer reductions to concession card holders.   • Government subsidies. We are authorised to offer subsidised course fees on certain qualifications depending on your circumstances. These are made available through two state-funded programs called NSW Smart & Skilled and Jobs & Skills WA

Application process

There are no formal entry requirements but we will need to check your academic suitability to ensure you have the best chance of success to complete the course. Just email or give us a call. Before you start studying, we will need to see an Australian State Education Year 12 Certificate. If you don’t have one, you will be asked to complete a reading and numeracy assessment.
