Dookie is a specialist campus and is part of the Melbourne School of Land and Environment (MSLE) at the University of Melbourne. The campus is on the doorstep of the orchard and other intensive horticulture industries of the Goulburn Valley, which is also home to many of the world's largest food processing plants. SPC Ardmona, Rosella, Campbells, IXL, Bonlac, Nestles, Kraft and Snowbrand all operate major plants using the fruit, vegetables and dairy produce of the region. The Dookie Hills are developing an excellent reputation as a wine making region, and are complimented by other gourmet food regions close by in Milewa and the Strathbogie Ranges. Dookie is itself a renowned cropping district, with mixed farming enterprises incorporating sheep and beef cattle production.
