The Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) is based on the latest global thinking in veterinary science practice, teaching and learning. Standard entry requirements

Entry to the Veterinary Bioscience major is based primarily on academic merit, and is only possible for students who have received a conditional offer for the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. Students cannot self-enrol in this major.

Recognition

American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA); Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (UK); Australasian Veterinary Boards Council Inc. Graduates will be qualified to register and practise as a veterinarian throughout Australia and many other countries, including Great Britain and New Zealand.

Study pathways

Credit transfer is available to graduates of the University of Melbourne's Bachelor of Science (Veterinary Bioscience) and Bachelor of Agriculture degrees. Places in the Bachelor of Science (Veterinary Bioscience) specialisation are quota limited, and students will need to excel in their Bachelor of Science studies at the University of Melbourne in first and second year level to be selected. Selection into the Veterinary Bioscience specialisation is made at the end of second year of the Bachelor of Science. Once selected, students who successfully complete all third year subjects will have a guaranteed entry to the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree, with 100 points credit (1 year of study), leaving 3 years of study in the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. School leavers applying for the Bachelor of Science at the University of Melbourne can secure a place in the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at the same time through the Graduate Degree Packages program, subject to meeting entry requirements.
