Graduate Certificate in Transfusion Practice

This program provides students with the skills and the opportunity to extend their professional knowledge in an area of specialty transfusion practice. It aims to improve the transfusion safety and appropriate use of blood and blood products within hospitals. The foundation of the work is the translation of national best practice guidelines into everyday transfusion practice. The course is delivered in partnership with the Australian Red Cross Blood Service under the auspices of the Blood Matters: better safer transfusion (BeST) program and the Department of Human Services Victoria. The program is conducted by an experienced nurse educator and is the only online Graduate Certificate in Transfusion Practice course in the Southern Hemisphere. Graduates will be able to conduct safe, appropriate and effective transfusion practice of blood and blood products.

Entry Requirements:

Undergraduate degree or equivalent in medicine, nursing, an allied health profession, science or social science; or 5 years' relevant work experience; employed in a clinical environment.


4 core subjects (12.5 points per subjects) for a total of 50 points. Core subjects are: Fundamentals in Transfusion Practice; Quality within Transfusion Practice; Transfusion Practice - Advanced Concepts; Transfusion Specialty Practice.

Students that complete the Graduate Certificate in Transfusion Practice (or the Certificate in Transfusion Practice) will gain 50 points credit if they decide to enrol in one of the following courses: J01 AA - Postgraduate Diploma in Nursing Practice J04 AB - Master of Advanced Nursing Practice.
