Master of Architecture

This program prepares graduates for employment as architects. The program is studio based and students can take a research subject which may enable progression to further studies as a PhD candidate. Graduates will be equipped with the creative and critical thinking skills to to help advance built environment design, manage an architectural practice and lead or work within cross-discipline project teams, and the ability to use new materials and technologies to create environmentally sustainable buildings.

Entry Requirements:

300 point program: undergraduate degree with a weighted average mark of at least 65%, or equivalent; completion of one design studio subject and one subject in art, architecture, built environment or design history at an undergraduate level, or equivalent; personal statement; design portfolio. 200 point program: undergraduate degree with a major in architecture or architectural studies and a weighted average mark of at least 65%, or equivalent; personal statement; design portfolio.

Structure:

The program can be taken as a 200 or 300 point stream depending on academic background. Students entering the Master of Architecture from a non-cognate discipline will undertake the 300 point stream. Students entering the Master of Architecture from a cognate discipline with 100 points of advanced standing will undertake the 200 point stream.

Entry (with advanced standing) will be offered on a case-by-case basis. School leavers applying for the Bachelor of Design at the University of Melbourne can secure a place in the Master of Architecture at the same time through the Graduate Degree Packages program, subject to meeting entry requirements.
