Bachelor of Pharmacy (Honours)

Students enrolled in the Bachelor of Pharmacy with Honours will develop a strong foundation in basic and pharmaceutical sciences core skills which will be integrated with contemporary knowledge and application of pharmaceutics and pharmacy practice. Prior to the commencement of the third year, students are required to complete 100 hours of practical experience work in a pharmacy which will be integrated into their course work. In the fourth or final year of the degree students will be required to undertake approximately 200 hours of clinical placements in community and hospital pharmacies of which some placements will be outside normal university trimester times. Students will be encouraged to take these placements in rural and regional areas. The Bachelor of Pharmacy with Honours is offered as a 4-year full time undergraduate course and is also available by distance education. The University of New England is the first university in Australia to offer a Bachelor of Pharmacy with Honours by distance education delivery. The degree must be completed within ten years from the date of commencement. This program has been granted accreditation by the Australian Pharmacy Council and is approved by the Pharmacy Board of Australia as a qualification leading to registration as a pharmacist in Australia.

Entry Requirements:

Year 12 or equivalent. Assumed Knowledge: Chemistry and Mathematics. Recommended studies: Biology and HSC Mathematics Extension 1 or 2.


192 credit points (equivalent to 32 standard units) including core units, an Honours thesis, 200 hours of clinical placements and 100 hours of practical work experience.

Students may be eligible for credit (advanced standing) for previously completed studies. This course includes an Honours thesis. An exit pathway is available for eligible students.

Immunisation - All students must undergo vaccination against infectious diseases as advised. This check will be conducted by NSW Health. Documentation specified by NSW Health or equivalent.

College accommodation

UNE’s residential accommodation currently consists of eight colleges and a village of self-contained units. Accommodation ranges from the more traditional college with meals included and shared bathroom facilities, to the more independent, self-contained flats at Wright Village and UNE’s new Wright College , which provides modern studio apartments complete with your own kitchen and bathroom facilities.
