University of Newcastle

The University of Newcastle is rated in the top 250 universities in the world and in 2014 was ranked number 1 in Australia of universities under 50 years of age.

The University of Newcastle has campuses in the Newcastle CBD, at Callaghan, on the Central Coast at Ourimbah, serving a regional community of more than 750,000. There is also a campus in the Sydney CBD and in Singapore in partnership with PSB Academy.

The University offers over 100 undergraduate and 150 postgraduate programs through five Faculties as well as a number of enabling programs including Open Foundation (for students aged over 21), Newstep (for students aged 17 to 21) and Yapug, a pre-degree preparation program for Indigenous students.

The student population is over 42,000 with international student enrolment growing annually. This year over 7,000 students from more than 60 countries will study both on and off-shore in teaching, nursing, medicine, engineering, science, technology and business.

Each faculty offers a wide range of postgraduate programs on campus, by distance, online or in combinations of all three. So too, does the University's main centre for graduate business programs, the Newcastle Graduate School of Business. The Graduate School is the postgraduate coursework unit that delivers online postgraduate programs and is now recognised as a leader in the field, offering one of the most flexible, student-focused, and least complicated delivery systems in Australia.

The University is well known for its research excellence and is ranked in the top 10 of Australian research universities. Problem-based learning, pioneered by Newcastle's medical faculty some 25 years ago, has been refined and now also underpins its programs in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, Nursing and Law.
