Graduate Certificate in Prescribing for Midwives

The Graduate Certificate in Prescribing for Midwives is designed to meet the educational requirements for midwives seeking endorsement for scheduled medicines with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia within the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). As an endorsed midwife you will gain the knowledge and have the right to refer to specialist services and safely prescribe scheduled medicines related to midwifery, adding to midwives’ capabilities in being highly skilled, safe, independent, collaborative clinicians.

Entry requirements

Applicants must be a Midwife holding current unconditional registration with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA). All applicants require a minimum of one year's full time (or part time equivalent) relevant experience across the full scope of midwifery practice, or in a specified context of midwifery practice. Work experience can be identified through: a detailed Curriculum Vitae, and a statement of service OR signed letters from employers confirming role, duties and period of employment.

Recognition

Graduates who have the required amount of practice hours will be able to apply for endorsement for scheduled medicines with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia. This program is accredited by the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council.

This program also provides an entry pathway into the Master of Midwifery Studies (Primary Care). You will receive credit for the courses you have already completed.
