Type of institution: University/Higher Education Institution
This combined degree program provides students with an opportunity to undertake concurrent study in Computer Systems Engineering and Business to complete two awards. The program offers students greater breadth of learning to enhance the academic and professional qualities gained in each separate degree, and recognises the increasing desirability of graduating with multi-disciplinary skills. The Bachelor of Computer Systems Engineering (Honours) / Bachelor of Business degree covers both the theoretical knowledge and practical skills required to create computer systems from the ground up. Students develop skills in software development, electronic hardware design and networking, with a particular focus on learning underlying principles and techniques so that graduates are able to learn and apply new technologies as they emerge through their career. The Bachelor of Business degree gives students a broad understanding of Australian and global business environments. Students benefit from a solid foundation in areas including finance, accounting, marketing, politics and the legal system, and are able to choose a major such as Innovation and Entrepreneurship that complements their main area of study. Completing these two degrees together enables students to complement their technical skills with business acumen and the ability to commercialise engineering innovations.
The Bachelor of Computer Systems Engineering (Honours) / Bachelor of Business is a 5 year program comprising 410 units, of which 340 units are core courses and 70 units are compulsory or directed units for the business major. Students will have the opportunity to undertake an industry related project in their final year and must also complete 12 weeks of industrial experience throughout the program. A graded honours classification in engineering is awarded on the basis of superior performance throughout the program. The Bachelor of Business component of this combined program may be awarded with Distinction on the basis of superior performance throughout the program.
