The Bachelor of Renewable Energy Engineering (Honours) provides students with the specialised knowledge and skills required to work in the rapidly growing renewable energy industry. The program is specifically built upon the core strengths of the University in the fields of energy and engineering and draws from the wealth of expertise, skill sets and the world-class infrastructure found at the Newcastle Institute for Energy and Resources (NIER). This unique approach enriches the students’ experience by demonstrating to them how the latest developments and emerging trends in sustainable energy solutions can be applied to real-world problems.The program is an interdisciplinary engineering program which is built on the foundation of electrical, mechanical and chemical engineering topics as they apply to renewable energy. The program offers specialised courses in solar, wind, bioenergy, and geothermal, hydro and hybrid systems, power system design, and grid integration encompassing generation, transmission, utilisation and storage of renewable energy. The core courses are complemented with a selection of electives from across the University in the areas of climate change policy, law and economics, social and environmental sciences, in turn preparing students to tackle complex multi-disciplinary problems.
