The Master of Professional Engineering (Mechanical) is a flexible degree that will allow students to fast-track their career in engineering. The program includes a variety of advanced engineering courses to help students extend their technical skills. Students can choose to develop their expertise in mechatronics design, advanced estimation, mechanics of bulk solids and particulates, renewable energy conversion, bulk materials handling and transportation and computer aided engineering and manufacturing. They can choose to diversify their engineering expertise with courses in mechatronics or electrical engineering, or could broaden their skills base in a complimentary area such as business and management skills, entrepreneurship and innovation, design or environmental management. Students will also complete an advanced engineering project (design-based or theoretical), which can potentially be linked to industry. The flexible nature of the program puts students in control. Whether students want to specialise or diversify, move into a more senior role, lead teams or projects, develop sophisticated research and innovation skills for R&D roles - they can choose courses to support their personal career goals.
Students eligible to complete a one year program will be advised at time of admission and will complete 80 units, including 20 units of Core Courses, 20 units of Directed Courses and 40 units of Elective Courses. Students completing the two year program will complete 160 units, including 90 units of Core Courses, 30 units of Directed Courses and 40 units Electives.

Graduates of an Australian Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) degree, or equivalent, can complete the MPE in just one year. This program is seeking provisional accreditation with Engineers Australia; and so international students seeking professional recognition from Engineers Australia and the Washington Accord, or those wishing to extend their engineering and professional expertise in an Australian context, will find the 2-year Master of Professional Engineering is the ideal program. The study program will be designed to build on their prior studies and develop the core technical competencies to ensure students qualify - these will be chosen from areas such as managing engineering projects, modelling and control, engineering complexity, advanced mechanics of solids and FEA, mechanical design, fluid mechanics and CFD.
