Graduate Certificate in Disaster Risk Reduction

University of Newcastle

The Sendai Framework for disaster risk reduction has forever altered the way in which organisations in civil society regard issues of hazard and vulnerability, and then consequently deal with risk. This program provides its graduates with a basic grounding in all of the essential elements required to manage the disaster risk reduction process within the following sectors: government organisations, private enterprise, non-government organisations, and not-for-profit organisations. It achieves this by exposing students to fundamental disaster risk reduction concepts and training in the use of the most widely adopted disaster risk reduction tools and protocols in use around the world. Graduates of this program should be capable of conducting disaster risk evaluations and guiding the subsequent development of disaster risk mitigation and management strategies for the organisations for which they work.
