The Master of Medical Statistics is an 80-unit coursework program comprising of 40 units of core courses and 40 units from one of two specialisations: Clinical; and Longitudinal Data Analysis. The Clinical specialisation is orientated toward applied practice versus mathematical theory, geared to health professionals and others wishing to undertake applied research but not necessarily practice as a medical statistician. The Longitudinal Data Analysis specialisation will focus on the theoretical underpinnings of Medical Statistics that are of particular interest to students already possessing a quantitative degree or appropriate mathematical training.

Entry Requirements:

Clinical Specialisation - A three year undergraduate degree in a health related field such as medicine, allied health, biomedical science and pharmacy, or a non-health field such as economics, science, mathematics and engineering, plus a minimum of one year relevant work experience; or a four year undergraduate degree in the above fields; or relevant postgraduate qualifications. Longitudinal Data Analysis Specialisation - A three year undergraduate degree in a field with strong mathematics/computing content, plus a minimum of one year relevant work experience; or a four year undergraduate degree in the above field; or relevant postgraduate qualifications.


The Master of Medical Statistics is an 80 unit program with two specialisations, comprised of 40 units of core courses, 30 units of compulsory courses for each specialisation and 10 units to be chosen from the specialisation's directed course list. Students must choose and complete one specialisation only.
