This course allows candidates to explore a topic of interest drawing upon majors within the School. The Masters Degree by Research is a postgraduate research degree comprising a substantial research component culminating in the submission of a thesis. Entry to the program will require the identification of a suitable member of staff to act as the supervisor.

Entry Requirements:

Undergraduate degree from a recognised university, which has been completed at a high credit standard and which demonstrates the applicant's potential to undertake and complete research-based study; or an equivalent academic background or extensive professional experience that is considered by the Dean of the School to be an appropriate preparation for independent study and research work at Masters level


2 year full-time or equivalent part-time study with a strong research focus. The Masters Degree by Research is comprised of units of supervised research which can include research training coursework as appropriate.

Notre Dame offers both full-fee places and Commonwealth Supported Places (CSPs). CSPs can be expected by most commencing students enrolling in biomedical science, education, health and physical education, medicine, nursing and physiotherapy courses. Domestic students may be able to defer their tuition fees through the federal government’s HECS-HELP and FEE-HELP loan schemes.
