The Bachelor of Secondary Education (Honours) is a four-year professional teaching degree that equips students with the practical skills and theoretical knowledge to thrive as contemporary educators in secondary school settings. As well as real-world experience, students are given the opportunity to fine-tune their learning as they focus on two subject areas aligned with the Australian Curriculum. The selected major and sub-major enables students to teach in both of these subject areas up to year 12. The addition of Honours in this degree offers a higher-level qualification, which sets students apart from their competitors and provides increased employment opportunities due to their ability to think critically and strategically, to problem solve and to undertake classroom-based research.

Standard entry requirements

  • Qualify for South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE) with competitive ATAR
  • OR complete secondary education equivalent to SACE
  • Complete International Baccalaureate Diploma
  • Complete or partially complete higher education program
  • Complete four Open Universities Australia courses at undergraduate level or above
  • Complete a Diploma or above
  • Qualify for special entry
  • Complete a Foundation Studies program AND meet any pre-requisite and academic requirements. All applicants will be required to submit a 400-600 word Teaching Capabilities Statement with their SATAC application.

Applicants are advised that a successful Child Related Employment Screening from the Department of Human Services is required for all students prior to their undertaking any professional experience/practicum placement that involves contact with minors (under 18 years of age).
