Bachelor of Medical Science (Medicine Pathway)

UniSQ’s Bachelor of Medical Science (Medicine Pathway) is a dedicated pathway into medicine, designed specifically for students seeking a supported and direct pathway into the University of Queensland’s (UQ) Doctor of Medicine (MD). You’ll develop strong foundations in medical sciences while building capabilities in diagnostic sciences, digital health, research, population health, healthcare advocacy, cultural safety and First Nations health, preparing you for future medical training and contemporary healthcare practice. Gain practical laboratory and technical skills that will help you understand human health and disease, interpret scientific and clinical information, develop decision-making skills, and apply evidence-based approaches to healthcare.  The Bachelor of Medical Science (Medicine Pathway) forms the undergraduate component of the Darling Downs South West Medical Pathway, a unique partnership between UniSQ, UQ, Darling Downs Health and South West Hospital and Health Service.

24 units of study, including on-campus practical learning sessions called residential schools.

Entry requirements

  • Must be completing year 12 in the year of applying (first year attempted). ATAR of 95 (special adjustments to ATAR are available to eligible applicants).
  • Pre-requisite study: English, Literature, English and Literature Extension or English as an Additional Language (Units 3 and 4, C).
  • General Mathematics, Mathematical Methods or Specialist Mathematics (Units 3 and 4, C).
  • Recommended prior study: one of Biology, Chemistry or Physics (Units 3 and 4, C).
  • Complete the University Clinical Aptitude Test for Australia and New Zealand (UCAT ANZ). Shortlisted applicants from UCAT scores will also be required to attend multiple mini-interviews (MMIs). Meeting the minimum entry requirements does not guarantee admission. Places within the Bachelor of Medical Science (Medicine Pathway) are limited by quota.

Study Pathways

When you successfully complete the Bachelor of Medical Science (Medicine Pathway) you will gain direct entry into the UQ MD, delivered through the UQ Rural Clinical School in Toowoomba.
