Associate Degree in Spatial Science

This program will prepare students for a career in one of Australia's most rapidly changing industries. Student can put their name on the digital map and arm themselves with the technical, analytical and leadership skills needed to succeed. The Geographic Information Systems major will give students practical experience with GIS technologies, experience the great outdoors by choosing the Surveying major, or learn to design communities and assess the impact of their development through the Urban and Regional Planning major.

Entry Requirements:

Year 12 or equivalent; Prerequisites: English (4, SA); Mathematics A (4, SA); Mathematics B (4, SA) recommended

Structure:

16 academic units and two or three practice courses, depending upon major. Academic courses are one-unit courses and involve approximately 155 hours of student work per unit. Practice courses are zero unit courses and each involves approximately 50 hours of student work.

Study Pathways:

Students can articulate into the Bachelor of Spatial Science Technology and Bachelor of Spatial Science (Honours) programs.

Recognition:

The surveying major is accredited by the Surveyors Board of Queensland. Graduates from the GIS and Surveying majors in the Associate Degree are eligible to apply for membership with the Surveying and Spatial Sciences Institute Australia.
