Bachelor of Engineering (Honours)

During the first year of study, students will experience all areas of the engineering field to allow them to take charge of their own career. This program will then allow students to undertake an in depth study of either agricultural, civil, computer systems, electrical and electronic, environmental, instrumentation control and automation, mechanical, mechatronic, power engineering. Students can apply their knowledge through practical work experience and an exciting final year research project that will give them hands-on industry experience. Graduates may apply for chartered status as a Professional Engineer and also have the opportunity to work overseas, with the accreditation recognised in those countries that are signatories to the Washington Accord.

Entry Requirements:

Subject Pre-requisites: English (4,SA) or equivalent, Mathematics B (4, SA) or equivalent; Recommended Prior Study: Physics (4, SA) or equivalent; English Language Proficiency requirements for Category 2.


32 Academic units plus 8-9 compulsory Practice Courses. Students can study on campus, external, or combination of both. Students enrolled in the External study mode in this degree will have the opportunity to come on-campus for residential schools. This degree has a mandatory attendance requirement for some of the residential school courses.

Study Pathways:

Students who hold a Bachelor of Engineering Science in the same field of study as their Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) major will be granted up to 2.5 years (possibly 3 years) advanced standing in the program. The Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) is the final step in an articulating suite of programs leading from the Associate Degree of Engineering through the Bachelor of Engineering Science to the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours), in the same major study area.
