The Graduate Diploma of Counselling will give you the advanced knowledge and expertise to prepare for, or extend, your practices in a range of specialist counselling areas, as well as fulfilling part of the requirements towards eligibility for professional counselling association membership. This Graduate Diploma of Counselling (Foundations of Practice) specifically contributes towards entry requirements for the counselling profession, while the other specialisations are designed to build specific counselling assessment and intervention skills for working within a range of contexts and with a wide variety of issues and populations. Our Graduate Diploma of Counselling is a stepping stone into the Master of Counselling, giving you the opportunity to fulfil your counsellor training.

Standard entry requirements
Completion of an Australian university three year Bachelor degree in any area, or equivalent and English Language Proficiency requirements for Category 3
The clinical supervision specialisation is designed to meet the PACFA Supervisor Training Standards; The mental health counselling specialisation is designed to meet the PACFA Mental Health Practitioner Mental Health Competencies; The foundations of practice specialisation is designed to address most of the training standards in the PACFA Training Standards 2014. Graduates of the Graduate Diploma of Counselling will be able to apply for membership of the Australian Counselling Association (ACA) and registration as a Counsellor with the Australian Register of Counsellors and Psychotherapists.
Full credit from USQ's 4-unit Graduate Certificate of Counselling; full credit towards USQ's Master of Counselling.

Students may exit after four courses with a Graduate Certificate of Counselling provided they have met the requirements within the program structure of the Graduate Certificate of Counselling. There are mandatory residential schools, held at the Ipswich Campus for COU5006, COU5007, COU5009 and COU5010.
