The Diploma of English for University Studies is ideal for students wishing to gain a formal undergraduate award in English language proficiency for professional or employment purposes. It is also an ideal path for those students wishing to further develop English language skills to gain entry into a USQ Education degree or postgraduate studies in Psychology. The course is designed to give students a formal qualification while helping build advanced written and spoken communication skills to a level ready to meet the demands of university studies in Education and other disciplines.

Entry Requirements:

To be eligible for admission, applicants must satisfy the following requirements: Completion of senior secondary schooling in the home country or equivalent, or Year 12 in an Australian high school. Normally, to be eligible for enrolment in the program a person will have attained an age of at least 18 years in the year of the proposed enrolment. Students will need to complete the online application form for entry to the program. All students are required to satisfy the applicable English language requirements. If students do not meet the English language requirements they may apply to study a University-approved English language program. On successful completion of the English language program, students may be admitted to an award program.

Structure:

1 year full-time; 2 years part-time. This program consists of eight core courses as seen below. Students must first successfully complete the four core courses from the Certificate of English for University Studies (EUS1001, EUS1002, EUS1003, EUS1004). After that, students progress to complete the remaining four Diploma courses. All eight courses can be taken in a single academic year for those pursuing full-time studies.

Upon successful completion of the Diploma of English for University Studies, you may be eligible for entry into the following: Bachelor of Education, Bachelor of Early Childhood, Graduate Diploma of Learning and Teaching, Graduate Diploma of Teaching, Master of Learning and Teaching, Master of Professional Psychology, Master of Psychology (Clinical).

Recognition:

The Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) is a single national, comprehensive system of qualifications offered by higher education institutions (including universities), vocational education and training institutions and secondary schools. Each AQF qualification has a set of descriptors which define the type and complexity of knowledge, skills and application of knowledge and skills that a graduate who has been awarded that qualification has attained, and the typical volume of learning associated with that qualification type. This program is at AQF Qualification Level 05. Graduates at this level will have specialised knowledge and skills for skilled/paraprofessional work and/or further learning.
