This program combines coursework and research and is designed for those already in an educational or science communication career. Students will undertake a professional development component in science, as well as gain a specialist foundation relevant for further research.

Entry Requirements:

Completion of an Australian university three year Bachelor degree in any area, or equivalent. Or Equivalent professional work experience, as determined through the Credit and Exemption Procedure. English Language Proficiency requirements for Category 3. Applied Data Science Specialisation: Knowledge on ethics of Computing, consistent with that found in CIS1000 Information Systems Concepts. Applicants are advised to also note they are responsible for ensuring their introductory knowledge of Computing is at least consistent with that found in CSC1401 Foundation Programming. Mathematics and Statistics specialisation: Knowledge of mathematics at least equivalent to that found in MAT1102 Algebra and Calculus I; and appropriate communication skills equivalent to those covered in CMS1000 Communication and Scholarship.


16 units: Mathematics and Statistics specialisation may choose at the most three approved courses and must complete at least eight units at Level 8 (including approved courses). The Sport and Exercise specialisation consist of 14 courses.

Ipswich Campus - Only the Sport and Exercise specialisation is available on-campus at the Ipswich Campus. The Sport and Exercise specialisation is available on-campus Toowoomba (suitable for international on-campus students), on-campus Ipswich (not available for international on-campus students) and external mode. The Environment and Sustainability, Applied Climate Science and Astrophysics specialisations are only available to external students. Therefore, these specialisations are not suitable for international students who wish to study on-campus. Semester 2 intake for the Mathematics/Statistics specialisation will be subject to the approval of the Program Coordinator. The Sport and Exercise specialisation is not available to international overseas students.


Graduates of the Master of Science (Sport and Exercise) 16-unit degree, may be able to gain accreditation as an exercise scientist via an individual application with Exercise & Sports Science Australia (ESSA).
