This program offers integrated core units of study that have been designed to progressively develop student's knowledge and skills throughout the program. Students will have the opportunity to consolidate and apply their learning to create business solutions in the capstone unit taken in the final year of study. Commerce can be combined with Arts, Science, Engineering Honours, Laws and Information Technology.

Entry Requirements:

Year 12 or equivalent; selection via ATAR. Assumed knowledge: Mathematics. Other assumed knowledge depends on the first-year units selected. From 2019, this course will require a course prerequisite of Mathematics (Band 4 or higher). The assumed knowledge will still apply.


144 credit points: 6 core units (36 credit points). Compulsory components: all students undertake core units of study in areas that include accounting, business information systems, business statistics and economics.

Practical experience: An Industry Placement Program is available locally and internationally, involving a work placement over 10 weeks during semester or an equivalent number of hours over the summer or winter vacation. Career opportunities: Examples include accountant, business systems analyst, entrepreneur, economist, financial dealer and broker, human resources specialist, investment banker, management consultant, marketing executive, project manager, stock trader.


Depending on the units chosen, the course is recognised by CPA Australia and Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand. Professional recognition is also available from the Australian Human Resources Institute.
