The reach and impact of economic issues and events makes the Bachelor of Economics one of the most versatile and important programs of study available. Economics forms the foundation for many fields of business study. The program provides students with a comprehensive understanding of the overall context of business and government, and the high-level technical skills to analyse economic and social data and events. At least one year of econometrics (a fusion of economics, statistics and mathematics) is required.

Entry Requirements:

Year 12 HSC or equivalent; selection via ATAR. Assumed knowledge: HSC Mathematics. Other assumed knowledge depends on the first-year units selected. From 2019, this course will require a course prerequisite of Mathematics (Band 4 or higher). The assumed knowledge will still apply.


Students will complete a program in economics, including one core major from Table A: agricultural and resource economics, econometrics, economics or financial economics. Students will also complete a minor or second major from the core majors, or from the majors offered by the Bachelor of Commerce: Accounting, banking, business analytics, business information systems, business law, finance, industrial relations and human resource management, international business, management and marketing.

Provided you have a sequence of units including accounting, fi nance and commercial law, you may be eligible for professional accreditation with CPA Australia, and Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand. Depending on units selected, professional recognition is also available from the Australian Human Resources Institute.
