Students will train to teach all the Key Learning Areas of the primary curriculum of the NSW Department of Education and Training. The study of science concepts in first and second year gives you a working knowledge of the main areas of science. You may build on areas of interest by taking special units in fourth year. Special units may be offered in areas such as Aboriginal studies, creative arts, information and communication technologies, languages, mathematics, special education and teaching English to speakers of other languages (TESOL). You may also have an opportunity to complete honours. This course is full-time study, daytime only.

Entry Requirements:

Year 12 HSC or equivalent. Assumed knowledge: Any two units of English (not ESL) (Band 5), Mathematics (not Mathematics General 2) (Band 5) and Band 5 in one other HSC subject. Structure:

All students follow a core program of study in Education, along with intensive study and practicum in the professional area, Primary Education.

Subjects you can Study:

Education-primary. General units in child development and learning, education and professional studies, specialist studies in key learning areas: language, arts, mathematics, health and wellbeing, science. Units in the humanities, sciences and social sciences are taken in Arts and Social Sciences, Science, and in the Business School.

Career opportunities: Examples include teacher, corporate trainer and development manager, curriculum consultant, educational administrator, educational researcher, government policy adviser. Practical experience: You will be provided with a range of practical teaching opportunities. A final-year internship enables you to teach 60 per cent full-time equivalent (FTE) for the period of the professional experience without the constant in-class supervision of the co-operating teacher.
